LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Beginning tomorrow, the United State Postal Service is starting a new program to try to stop their carriers from getting bitten by dogs.

They’ll put a paw print sticker on mailboxes of houses where they know about a dog living there that could attack, so the carrier knows to be extra careful.

An orange sticker means there’s a dog living at that address and a yellow sticker means there’s a dog next door.

USPS says this program could also help dog owners avoid liability if there is an attack.

“This isn’t a bad thing at all. This isn’t calling you out or putting out a mark that you have a bad dog or that your dog has attacked anybody. It is just to let the carrier know,” Post Office Safety Ambassador, Shannon Devine said.

If you don’t want one of these stickers on your mailbox you can call the Kentucky Consumer Affairs Office to ask for it to be removed.

Devine says the greater Louisville area has seen a lot of dog incidents with mail carriers.
