PMG discusses efforts to grow USPS (video)

Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan discusses workplace safety, mail and package volumes, and other topics in her latest “Business Focus” video.

She urges employees to correct and report unsafe conditions in USPS workplaces.

“Eliminating hazardous conditions keeps you and your co-workers safe,” Brennan says.

On the operational front, the PMG reports First-Class Mail and Marketing Mail volumes are continuing to decline as consumers and businesses embrace digital alternatives. The organization is delivering more packages and working to grow its shipping returns business, but this growth won’t be enough to offset mail volume declines.

To accommodate the changing mail mix, the Postal Service is removing excess equipment and adjusting staffing to better match volumes.

“These actions help us control costs, drive operating efficiencies and keep mail affordable,” Brennan says.

USPS is also continuing to seek a new pricing system that gives the organization more flexibility to deal with marketplace changes, as well as legislative reform that offers both cost savings and revenue opportunities.

“Our financial challenges are serious but solvable,” Brennan says. “We need legislative and regulatory reform, and we need to do our part to ensure the long-term viability of the Postal Service. This is a shared responsibility.”

Other subjects addressed by the PMG include recent nominations to the Postal Service Board of Governors, the importance of customer service, new stamps, and the continued dedication of USPS employees.

“Your commitment to the Postal Service makes a difference to customers and communities across the country,” she says.
