In April 2021, the Postal Service announced it would transfer mail processing operations out of 18 facilities to make space needed for package processing. Specifically, the Postal Service stated that due to the decline in mail volume, it will relocate or remove unnecessary sorting equipment to make space for needed package processing, with no Postal worker layoffs.
