OSHA response to unsafe work conditions complaint at Cape Girardeau Mail Facility

RE: OSHA Complaint No. 2045099
Dear Employer:

On June 23, 2023, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) received a notice of alleged workplace hazard(s) at your worksite at:

475 Kell Farm Drive, 320 N. Frederick St.
Cape Girardeau, MO 63701

We notified you by telephone of these alleged hazards on June 23, 2023. The specific nature of the alleged hazards is as follows:

Employees are exposed to fire hazards from out of date fire extinguishers.
Employees are exposed to fire hazards from a sprinkler system that has not been tested.
Employees are exposed to chemical eye hazards due to no functioning eye wash station.
Employees are exposed to BBP due to biohazard samples sitting at one location for a year.­
Employees are exposed to struck by hazards due to overhead rolling door being partially dislodged.
Employees are exposed to evacuation hazards due to emergency lighting being out.
Employees are exposed to trip/fall hazards due to a sump cover that is rusted out and could not handle the weight if stepped on.
Employees are exposed to electrical hazards from an exposed outlet on the outside of the facility. Most hazards are reported to be at 475 Kell Farm Drive.

We have not determined whether the hazards, as alleged, exist at your workplace, and we do not intend to conduct an inspection at this time. However, because allegations of violations and/or hazards have been made, we request that you immediately investigate the alleged conditions and make any necessary corrections or modifications. Please advise me in writing, no later than June 30, 2023, of the results of your investigation. You must provide supporting documentation of your findings. This includes any applicable measurements or monitoring results; photographs/video that you believe would be helpful; and a description of any corrective action you have taken or are in the process of taking, including documentation of the corrected condition. “If we do not receive a response from you by June 30, 2023 indicating that appropriate action has been taken or that no hazard exists and why, an OSHA inspection will be conducted.”
