OIG: Have Field Material Handling Projects Benefited USPS?

Project Title: Field Material Handling Projects
Start Date: Monday, March 27, 2017
Estimated Report Release Date: September 2017

The U.S. Postal Service has one of the largest material handling systems in the world for moving mail. There are more than 200 miles of conveyors and more than 8,500 pieces of mail processing equipment used to sort more than half the world’s mail.

To increase operational efficiency the Postal Service invests in material handling projects. These projects can include facility modernizations, support services, and upgrades to existing material handling equipment.

We are conducting an audit of fiscal year 2016 field material handling projects. We will determine if the Postal Service achieved the projected return on investment for the completed fiscal year 2016 field material handling projects.
