USPS: Wounded Warriors – New category of leave available to some

Some Postal Service employees who served in the armed forces are eligible for wounded warriors leave (WWL), a new benefit.

wounded-warriorUnder a law that President Obama signed last year, federal agencies are required to provide up to 104 hours of leave to eligible veterans with a service-connected disability rated at 30 percent or more.

The leave must be used to receive treatment for their service-connected disability during their first year of employment.

Under the law, only federal employees hired on or after Nov. 5 are eligible for WWL.

However, the Postal Service will extend the benefit to current employees who otherwise meet the law’s eligibility requirements.

This means eligible USPS employees may use up to 104 hours of WWL during the 12-month period that began Nov. 5.

Employees are responsible for notifying USPS of their eligibility before requesting WWL.
