Fighting for New York Metro Votes?

Both tickets should understand that the most important thing in electing a Vice President is to make sure they are qualified to be President and I don’t know if I would be comfortable with either VP candidate running the APWU.

Mark Dimondstein has the gravitas to be President but there seems to be some bad blood, and he seems to focus on the political at the expense of the grievances. When NBA jobs are vacated the National tries to eliminate them. NBAs are overworked and the grievance procedure is perpetually backed up.

It seems both slates are trying to win New York Metro votes but what about the rest of us. Are these really the best people on each slate for each of the top offices? This is not the best time for this when we are going to interest arbitration but this is an election year. Many of the lower ticket candidates will get our vote regardless of what slate they are on.

I can honestly say that Jonathan Smith is deeply qualified to take the reigns of our Union. I have worked with him in the past and he is dedicated, hard working, very intelligent and deeply committed to doing the right thing for the Union. He is also a very honorable man. He has my vote.

In a few days we should know who is running for office and what, if any slate they are part of. NY Metro is big so I would expect them to get a lot of attention. All National Officers and NBA’s should be appreciated for the work they do, as well as shop stewards who are on the front lines every day.

Local Leaders need to educate all of our members of the dedication of our NBA’s. This is how members learn that the APWU has their back. We don’t need this political stuff while negotiations are ongoing. We need solidarity. Thanks to our NBA’s for their dedication. Shame on the National Officers for worrying only about their personal gain.
The APWU is better than that.
