Providence, RI Postal employee taken to hospital after forklift accident

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A postal employee at the main U.S. Post Office was taken to Rhode Island Hospital early Thursday morning after a forklift he was operating accidentally struck a support beam inside the facility at 24 Corliss St., according to the Providence police.

The man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be serious, Lt. Kevin Lanni said. He did not release the man’s name yet, in case family members had not yet learned of the injuries.

The police responded to the accident at 5:22 a.m., and Providence fire responders were already there assisting the man, who was sitting in the forklift when they arrived, Lanni said.

As is typical after an industrial or workplace accident, the police called the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration to investigate, Lanni said.
