W. PA Postal Workers Solidarity Committee July 6 Update: “Most of you still don’t get it!”

Western_PA_solidarity_committee_2Dear Pittsburgh Metro Member,

Most of you still don’t get it! The Staple’s rally that was held at the McKnight store after you received the June 8 letter saw @ 40 demonstrators. There was a good mix of Letter Carriers as well as APWU members, family members, and retirees. The Committee expresses our recognition and sincere gratitude for those who participated.

But the Committee has no illusions. With so much at stake, out of the many thousands of Union members across all the Post Offices, fielding @ 40, including spouses and children, is not much of a showing. You can and must do better!

While you fiddle, Rome is burning!  The new Postmaster General, Megan Brennan, has not only embraced the policies of the failed Patrick Donahoe administration [remember him and his anti-service, anti-worker administration?], but had the temerity to oppose those right thinking Congressmen who want to return to overnight standards.  Her stepping into the top job is obviously nothing more than ‘old wine and new bottles’.

So you took a pass on the McKnight action.  All is lost!  The schedule that was on the reverse of the letter listed three places where demonstrations would be held.  But that is not the end of the story.  Our Committee intends to keep the heat on Staples’sm by demonstrating several times a month rotating throughout the Western Pennsylvania area, until National gives us other marching orders.  We have reprinted the schedule for the Waterworks and Robinson Township demonstrations on the reverse of this communication as a reminder of those activities.  Our Committee continues to meet on a regular basis.  We will schedule more demonstrations in the future.  You will be informed of those activities.

The Committee is doing our job, as we have rallied since late 2013 when the secret Staple’s deal was revealed.  Throughout that period we have relied on word of mouth to entice you to get with the program.  Obviously a more direct approach is needed.  This is it!  If you aren’t yet convinced that management is after your job, we invite you to take a good look at the recently revised discipline and dress code.  Who do you think they are after with that ludicrous policy?  THEY ARE AFTER EVERYONE WHO CAN BE HELD TO THE MOST SUBJECTIVE OUTRAGEOUS STANDARDS IN THE HISTORY OF THIS AREA!

SO GET OFF YOUR DUFF AND GET TO THE NEXT RALLY AT WATERWORKS MALL IN BLAWNOX, AND BRING FAMILY AND/OR FRIENDS WITH YOU.
MANAGEMENT IS WATCHING YOUR EVERY MOVE ON THE WORK FLOOR.  GIVE THEM AN EYEFUL OF YOUR RESOLVE AT THE STAPLE’S DEMONSTRATION!
