When I first met Kim Guy in 2004, she had a friend at a nearby Post Office I represented who was issued a removal letter over some very serious allegations and charges. She asked if she could help me and said she had some experience. Our Business Agents and others told us the case looked bad, and didn’t give us very good odds on saving his job. However, with Kim’s help and participation in the case, the clerk was fully exonerated of all accusations and charges and a Postmaster lost their job. Since that time, Kim Guy has been the driving force and biggest single factor in the outstanding success of the Greater Smokey Mountain Area Local 263. She first served as Asst. Clerk Craft Director and then Director, and currently serves as Vice President. Kim has served as State President of the Tennessee Postal Workers Union for many years, and has worked hard to ensure all Members are treated fairly and represented. She has an outstanding knowledge, and more importantly, an understanding of the contracts we enforce. Kim has outstanding negotiating skills, can organize extremely well, and she has tremendous passion about our Union and helping our Members. She understands the Labor Movement and the rewards it has provided to all Postal Service employees, and will fight to improve our Union.
Kim Guy will work hard and do the right things that will make the most difference for our National Business Agents as they do their own difficult jobs. She will fight to provide them whatever they need to better represent our Members and do their duties more effectively. Kim Guy has been trained in Arbitration and has been an asset to several NBAs in the Southern Region. Kim knows the importance of active participation in a union, and has been a great recruiter over the years. The biggest assets Kim Guy has are her passion for the Union, her compassion for people, her ability and eagerness to listen, and her determination to do the right thing the right way. She will bring honesty and integrity to the position, and expect the same from others.
Kim Guy has served our Area Local for many years, and we have developed a great friendship and trust. She has made me a better representative and leader, and has helped me do my job better. It would be a tremendous loss to me and our Area Local for Kim to leave, but it will be a gain for all Southern Region APWU Members when they elect Kim Guy as Southern Regional Coordinator.
