San Diego District has opened 36 Village Post Offices (VPOs) during the past three years, winning an ambitious challenge within the Pacific Area.

VPOs — which allow convenience stores, libraries and other community organizations to sell postal products — are part of a broader USPS initiative to strengthen customer service.

Soon after the program began in 2011, Pacific Area Marketing Manager Cindy Larson put the eight districts to the test, challenging each to open at least 30 VPOs by December 2014.

San Diego District embraced the challenge, said Business Development Specialist Carol Hunt, whose team helps local businesses understand how a VPO can boost foot traffic.

“It is truly my pleasure to help make our products and services more conveniently available to our customers,” Hunt said. “And although I do a lot of the footwork, this is definitely a team effort and I am proud to be a part of the San Diego District team.”
