USPS FERS annuity estimates on LiteBlue now include your estimated annuity supplement. The FERS annuity supplement makes a huge difference when you retire before age 62. For an average postal employee, it adds about $37 per month for each year of career FERS service. With 30 years of FERS service, the supplement adds about $1,100 per month to your basic annuity until age 62. This is an especially important factor to consider in a Voluntary Early Retirement (VER) or Discontinued Service Retirement (DSR), since you may be eligible for the supplement sooner.
In every USPS VER, HRSSC has failed to provide individual retirement counseling before the irrevocable withdrawal date. The NALC addressed that problem in a settlement agreement in 2013. Individual retirement counseling is covered in Chapter 40 of the CSRS and FERS Handbook for Personnel and Payroll Offices, which is incorporated into CBA Article 21.3 and ELM 580. Much of what you need to know is answered in the USPS Retirement Videos. If you are a military veteran and haven’t yet made your Military Deposit to get civilian credit for your military service, you are probably out of time for this VER. It must be completed before your retirement date.
