The Postal Service is reminding employees that waste aerosol cans must be stored and disposed of properly.

These cans are a potential safety and environmental hazard because they may contain unused chemical products and propellant.

Aerosol cans that contain unused liquid or propellants must never be disposed of in the regular trash. Non-empty aerosol cans are typically regulated waste and must be disposed of through Safety-Kleen, the Postal Service’s licensed contractor for the disposal of hazardous and regulated waste.

Aerosol cans that are completely empty through normal use are not regulated waste.

If possible, recycle empty aerosol cans using a local scrap metal contractor. If recycling is not possible, empty aerosol cans may be disposed in the regular trash.
