USPS: Disability Employment Month, ADA mark milestones

The U.S. Department of Labor is distributing this poster to promote National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, an annual campaign that seeks to raise understanding of disability employment matters and commend the contributions of workers with disabilities.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the campaign, also known as NDEAM, as well as the 30th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, transportation, public accommodations and other areas.

The theme for this year‚Äôs campaign is ‚ÄúIncreasing Access and Opportunity.‚ÄĚ You can learn more about NDEAM and view a time line about advancements in disability employment since the ADA‚Äôs passage on the U.S. Department of Labor website‚Äôs National Disability Employment Awareness Month page.

The Postal Service’s National Disability Program Blue page and Reasonable Accommodation Blue page also have information on disability employment awareness and reasonable accommodation resources, including stand-up talks, policy and procedure links, American Sign Language instructional videos and an NDEAM resource kit.
