USPS: Coronavirus guidance for kiosks issued

USPS wants Post Offices with more than one self-service kiosk to make sure customers can maintain social distancing while conducting transactions.

Accessible 24 hours a day in many locations, self-service kiosks allow customers to purchase print-on-demand stamps, ship packages, look up ZIP Codes and renew PO Boxes.

USPS, in its role as an essential service, continues to operate self-service kiosks at retail locations across the nation during the coronavirus pandemic. The organization is also following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations for social distancing.

To ensure the health of employees and customers, USPS is advising Post Offices with more than one kiosk to adhere to the following guidance:

  • Place a safe, secure barrier such as a sneeze guard between the machines.
  • If the kiosks are close together and a barrier is not an option, place a “not in use” sign on one of the machines, but leave it powered on. If there are three kiosks, place the sign on the middle machine.
  • Use floor tape to create a line that leaves at least 6 feet between customers to maintain social distancing.
  • Clean kiosks, including the keypad, regularly throughout the day.

The Postal Service has distributed a stand-up talk for managers and supervisors to announce the policy to employees.

The COVID-19 Blue and LiteBlue pages have additional resources for employees.
