   John, sorry to hear of your passing, which I read about in the latest issue of the APWU, The American Postal Worker, July/August 2023 issue. I worked for the USPS for 42 years retiring in 2015 as a manual clerk at the San Bernardino Ca. Mail Process Center. I have been a card carrying APWU member ever since I started my Postal career. I am still a member in retirement in good standing and most likely will stay a member. I started my career as an LSM clerk in Pasadena Ca. transferring to San Bernardino in ‘85.

   I am seeking information about your personal history. My wife’s maiden name is “Richards” her people are from Shinglehouse Pa. about 182 miles from where you lived in Pittsburgh. Was hoping your wife or children can help me with possible a connection between your people and hers. Maybe related somehow. Again sorry of your passing you will be missed by your union brothers and sisters, You were the Union.

   John,

   Sorry to hear of your recent health problems. I hope things improve for you soon. I looked you up to thank you again for looking out for your people, even in your retirement. The newsletter on Medicare Advantage was the only thing I’ve seen noting the disadvantages of it. I probably would have signed up if my wife hadn’t reminded me that some things seem to be too good to be true. You’ve been a true stalwart of our local union. You & Joe Anthony were quite the team. Thanks again.

   Hi John,

   I don’t know if you remember but we first met in 1978, at the National Convention in Denver. It seems like yesterday. I still remember the Denver Post putting a picture of Emmett Andrews giving the bird to the then President of the L.A. Local. Emmett had a big smirk on his face. They had to put it on the front page!

   Us old guys have to look out for ourselves. We never know what’s lurking around the corner. Retirement isn’t what I thought it would be. I’m somewhat disappointed with neurologists. They seem to have problems getting things right. That being said, I’m still chugging along. I enjoyed my times as an officer of the local.

   I wish you all the best, for a long time to come.
