The partisan polarization has crept into every aspect of everyday life, it seems. It has crept into the conversation among our rank and file and is creating some strong division.
The sad part of it is, 80% of the divisive issues between us as a demographic is that those hot button issues have little if any impact on our hours, wages, benefits, quality bids and safety.
I am not the only old head around the PO who has seen the ridiculous amount of control that the AFL-CIO has in what the APWU’s agenda and message of urgency will be. What takes priority over those aforementioned FIVE issues??? Nothing! That is literally the union’s primary function. We pay the AFL-CIO for membership that many feel has outlived its usefulness.
The AFL-CIO needs the American Postal Workers Union a whole lot more than we need the AFL-CIO. The AFL-CIO is a fundraising machine.they pump that money into the pockets of career politicians who, in turn, pile on more taxation and more regulation of working families, pushing us all deeper into the quagmire of our shrinking dollar.
Dump COPA and start an ad campaign to run informative commercials and media spots exposing how the 10 year plan is a disaster and the consolidations are a grave mistake. We’ve lived it first hand. Anyway, enough pontificating, it’s a good discussion to have.
