Anyone else having issues with the vacuum backpacks hurting their backs or shoulders? We have our boss saying the times are estimates but if we don’t get it done in time he will be following us to see why. Extension cord problems anyone? Has anyone tried to put the vacuum on something they could use to carry it on instead of wearing it? Has anyone tried getting a doctor’s note for the vacuum packs?

We have had the backpack vacs for a year now. There have been 8 injuries, 1 serious. All appeals to management have been ignored. I had a Drs. note and upcoming surgery when I asked for an accommodation.
I went before the committee and was approved for the use of a canister vac. Management disapproved it. Even though the same company makes canister vacs and all the custodians could have used it.
They said “we are stuck with this and there is nothing we can do about it.”
The plant is dirtier than ever, the equipment is not meant for a factory setting. It’s obvious our welfare is not on the agenda.

They were maximizing all non odl and odl custodians 10/ 12 hours and a forced 6th day last year for almost the whole year to make sure that 90 was hit on line h. Our union at the time allowed them to do it. I felt it was way to avoid paying out at the end of the fiscal year. Now that the tl5 was implamented and we are short tons of hours and just lost a custodian to attrition I see maximazing/mandatory again in our future. Thanks for the feedback brutha!!

Operation 616 Union Time apparently does not count towards the Line H work hours either.
So what do you think will happen when Stewards who are Custodians ask for Union Time? Of course it will be denied, which is an Art. 15. 17 violation and grounds for filing Labor Charges.
So what do you think will happen when Stewards who are Custodians ask for Union Time and it is granted? When the Line H hours fall short, management will have to pay the Craft and that Steward will get paid again for Union Time unless they were given Overtime to complete their TL-5 routes that were bypassed because of the Union Time that was granted.
TL-5 is still very sour to me, but anyway we can force management to squeeze our lemons, gets us closer to lemonade.

I like your answer Gary. You guys have team cleaning at your facilty yet? Ive talked to Columbus, Ohio and Saltlake, Utah and they have been using the cleaning system fir 2 years now. Everyone including the boise plant is saying its dirtier than ever. Of course management is pushing this like the agent in the Matrix movies saying its a great system and just give it time. Talking about how we are professionals and this place will get dirtier before it gets cleaner. Sure some custodians needed to actually work but this from what Ive seen is just making all the hard working custodians not care. I realize theres not much we can do since the union agreed to this tl5 but still its a ridicolous system. Lol. The training is ludacris and should be a standup routine in my opinion. Anyways would love to here more people opinions on this subject. Im considering putting in a letter to transfer over to carrier soon myself.
