Sysco/US Foods Opinion Bolsters APWU’s Arguments Against Staples/Office Depot

Judge Amit Mehta’s preliminary injunction blocking the planned merger of Sysco Corp. and US Foods, the nation’s two largest broadline distributors of food and related supplies to restaurants and foodservice establishments, has given the American Postal Workers Union additional fodder in its campaign against the Staples/Office Depot merger.

The APWU has recently emerged as a staunch opponent of the office products deal and has been providing the Federal Trade Commission with evidence it believes supports its position.

In response to the 128-page decision of Judge Mehta, Sysco announced the termination of its merger agreement with US Foods.
