Former South Dakota and Wisconsion NALC officials charged with felony theft, embezzlement of funds

On July 27, 2026, in the Lincoln County, Wisconsin Circuit Court, Dawn Polka, former President of National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch 778 (located in Merrill, Wisc.), was charged with one count of felony theft in a business setting totaling approximately $3,739, in violation of Wisconsin State Statutes 943.20(1)(b) and (3)(bf) and 939.50(3)(i). The charge follows an investigation by the OLMS Detroit-Milwaukee District Office.

On July 16, 2026, in the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota, Kairik Strehlow, former Treasurer of National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch 1064 (located in Pierre, S.Dak.), was indicted for one count of embezzlement of union funds totaling $7,731, one count of filing a false union financial report, and three counts of making a false entries in a union record, in violation of 29 U.S.C. 501(c), 29 U.S.C. 439(b), and 29 U.S.C. 439(c), respectively. The charges follow an investigation by the OLMS Detroit-Milwaukee District Office and the United States Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General.
