Postal Headquarters officials kept an overflow crowd in the lobby as beleaguered Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe finally resigned on Nov 14. Chanting for over an hour, the boisterous crowd eventually held a rally outside, where APWU President Mark Dimondstein called for the new postal leadership to “reverse Donahoe’s policies of lowering standards, reducing hours, outsourcing work and diminishing a great American institution.” The Washington, DC event was one of 150 protests in 50 states defending the postal service from policies that will inevitably lead to privatization.
