Newspaper dropping it’s carriers in favor of postal delivery

The Moberly Monitor-Index will eliminate delivery carriers in July and rely instead on the U.S. Postal Service to take the daily newspaper to subscribers.

The switch will mean changing the daily publication schedule to print the newspaper in the evening, Circulation Manager Jessie Embree said Tuesday. The Monitor-Index currently is published at midday and delivered in the afternoon. Under the new schedule, the paper will be available on newsstands in the morning and will arrive in mailboxes the same day.

“I am pretty sure it is going to be done overnight to make sure that everyone gets the same-day service,” Embree said. “It is a big change.”

The Monitor-Index publishes Monday through Friday. The first newspaper that will be delivered by mail will be the July 6 edition, Embree said.
