At least you know when it’s TrumpWhen Trump says something stupid you hear him. When he types out a lie you can see it’s on his Twitter account. Not everyone has agreed with what I have written in the past, but my name is attached and I believe in what I have written.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of the coward or group of cowards that sent out the attack piece on Vance Zimmerman. For the first and maybe last time in my life I will say that Trump has more class than these cowards.
I actually heard there is a conversation that maybe a supporter of Vance mailed it to tarnish the other teams. I won’t place a blanket of blame over the other teams running for office, but most of the time if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, yes sir, it’s a duck.
I applaud those who disposed of the trash just as it should have been. And I will go back to the same reasoning I have applied with most of my arguments this election. If any of this was true and you knew about this and said nothing, you are complicit and you are a double-coward.
Make the argument that you will do things different or even better if elected to the position you are seeking. But the outright attack of an officer for political gain only sells in a Trump world of hate and division. Most good unionists are too smart for this crap. I have personally only have met Vance twice, once in his NBA office in January 2007 when evaluating secretarial staffing for Bill Burrus and again a few weeks back at a union event in Pennsylvania. Based on my interaction with him and the opinion of people I really trust and care about, Vance is a great unionist and fights hard for the members each day.

Vance Zimmerman is a highly motivated APWU advocate for unity of the postal workforce. I worked with Vance in the maintenance department back in 1993 forward, until he easily got elected to serve in the Greater Cincinnati Area Local full time. Vance demonstrated superior intelligence and discernment, to bring about a spirit of harmony for our work force to work as a team. I was amazed early on how he garnered respect from management and labor to facilitate quick and honorable resolutions. He has now accomplished so much more as a national leader for the APWU. It would definitely be APWU’s advantage to send back in an experienced skilled craftsman to finish this long hard fight for the future of the APWU members. Vance is more than an Industrial Relations Director as you can see by reading his candidacy statement, re posted here. APWU Together We Win is with Vance Zimmerman.

Vance Zimmerman Statement
Candidate for Industrial Relations Director
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Please give me the opportunity to tell you more about the position of Industrial Relations Director and why I am seeking your support for re-election. The main functional purpose of the APWU Industrial Relations Director is to enforce the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. I have had the privilege of serving this great union as your Industrial Relations Director over the last three years. I am proud of the work I have done to vehemently defend you against the attacks the Postal Service has levied against your rights, livelihood, and working conditions. My experience and passion makes me well suited to continue to represent you in this important position. Before serving as the Industrial Relations Director, I had the honor to serve as a National Business Agent (NBA) in the Central Region for 15 years. Prior to my service as an NBA I served in the Greater Cincinnati Area Local in multiple positions including Vice-President, the Maintenance Craft Director, and the Assistant Clerk Craft Director where I represented over 1600 clerks.
I have worked in the trenches of multiple crafts and understand the issues all the crafts face on the workroom floor. I have gained a reputation as an aggressive contract enforcer. My NBA experience is a crucial part of what makes me the best candidate for Industrial Relations Director.
Through all of these roles and the experience gained throughout my career, I am uniquely qualified to be the Industrial Relations Director. I have been involved in the last 4 national contract negotiations in preparation, support, and negotiating roles culminating with the ongoing 2018 negotiations as the Chief Spokesperson leading the fight demanding a contract that recognizes your hard work and skills. As an NBA, I handled over 30,000 cases that lead to tens of millions of dollars being put back into the hands of our membership as well as returning many employees who faced unjust removal from the Postal Service back to work. I trained thousands of officers and stewards in the grievance process, arbitration advocacy, the JCIM, and LMOU negotiations. I have been involved in fighting the plant consolidations in the four states I represented as NBA and will continue to fight to restore the service standards. One of my proudest moments as a union representative is when I was part of a team consisting of the local officers, stewards, and members, who worked to stop the Cincinnati Processing and Distribution Plant from closing.
As Director, I have worked closely with the President and every craft to strengthen the rights of the members. With your support and vote I will continue to have the honor of fighting for you. I am experienced in the interest arbitration process; I successfully negotiated the very beneficial LMOU for offices without union structure. I took on the USPS and the Department of Justice when they tried to silence our union members under the Hatch Act and won! I have been on forefront leading fight against the USPS and anyone else trying to silence us from standing up for better pay, benefits and working conditions for working men and women of America. When you consider the candidates for the office of Industrial Relations Director, I believe you must place qualifications, experience and tenacity as first considerations. When you do, you will conclude that I am the best candidate for the job.
Training and communication of a member’s contractual rights is key, as our contract without enforcement is meaningless. Communication with the members has improved and I vow to continue to increase the communication by arming the stewards and members with the knowledge they need to enforce their contractual rights.
Running the APWU Safety and Health program is also part of the Director’s duties. I have OSHA training, been on Area and Local Safety Committees, and have reinvigorated the Safety Program using the regional and local Safety and Health Representatives and Regional Coordinators. You deserve a safe work environment and a workplace free of harassment.
One of the most important responsibilities of the Industrial Relations Director is to select the arbitrators on the regional arbitration panels that hear the grievances that are not resolved at step one, two or three. These arbitrators’ decisions affect your working conditions on the workroom floor. When the next contract is set by the interest arbitrator, the arbitrator selection process will begin. You will need a person experienced in arbitration and the selection process to ensure the arbitrators selected are fair to both sides and not pro-management. I included the regional coordinators, NBAs and local presidents in the selection process. This led to arbitrators that were fair to you—the members. I will continue this process.
I am honored to be running with a team of experienced, passionate, dedicated and strong leaders from across the country on the APWU Together We Win team. I look forward to working with all of them to confront and aggressively address the issues and the fight on the workroom floor we all face. We will hold management accountable! Please visit the APWU Together We win website http://www.apwutogetherwewin.org to learn more.
Your futures as postal workers are important to me. A fundamental right is for an individual to earn fair wages and benefits to provide for their family. One of the greatest privileges in my life is to fight every day for the hard-working women and men of the APWU like you. I humbly request your support and vote so I can continue to fight for you on the workroom floor every day.

Sorry Sam, I don’t see Vance Zimmerman in my post. Perhaps you interpret the word “folks” as meaning something it doesn’t. Whoever the “folks” are that voted to double the premiums should be ashamed. If it was done to build a slush fund they should be voted out. Whoever those “folks” might be.

Well Frederick, it sounds like you are laying blame on Vance. That is based on your leading Vance-trump letter head. I know Vance as well as anyone. I suggested he run for BA back in the day. We were on a flight home from a National Convention were Vance made strong statements regarding the Maintenance Craft. Long story short, Vance was elected and represented the Central District. He is one of the most knowledgeable officers I have known. He won many contract disputes for the Evansville Area Local Evansville Indiana. He is a good man, and an excellent Representative for the APWU.

I am in the APWU Consumer Driven Health Plan.
There is no conspiracy theory as to the doubling of my premiums this year. I did not raise my own premiums. That was done by the folks at APWU Headquarters. All I ask is when United Healthcare presents the big rebate check the officers who voted to double my premiums will allow me to look at the check and feel proud that I contributed in a small way. Then I will be able to sleep well knowing there is a “Grand Alliance” out there doing good with my hard earned money.
