In Wheeling they are going to the street for a new hire for mechanic. A person applied, was computer tested and bench tested, passing both. Background check came back with two moving violations. He was told he wasn’t accepted because of moving violations. The job was reposted since then, and one of his violations had been removed from his record.
The question we have – Is he still on the pecking order for a call, as his test scores are still good? He is getting the runaround from HR as whether he is still in the pecking order or not. Does he have to reapply for the position if posted again?
I tried to keep this short as it is confusing. Thanks for any help you can give me. I’m actually the Maintenance Steward, not VMF Steward, just trying to help out and keep it proper. Thanks again for any help, phone number or anything to make sure the hiring is done properly.

This is one way for the postal service to justify contracting out of VMF work, claiming there are no qualified candidates. They do this by nitpicking the candidate’s abstract.
They don’t do this for those so-called mechanics at the private repair shops that work on postal vehicles for substantially less than we get and without any of the benefits.
I would tell your candidate to re-apply and keep his name on the hiring register.
And make sure all of the authorized VMF positions are covered. I’ve written a thesis on how to file a grievance on this.
