11/20/2014 – APWU President Mark Dimondstein was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Civil Rights Center and Museum (ICRCM) in his adopted home town of Greensboro, NC, on Sept. 15.

The centerpiece of the museum commemorates the historic sit-in by four North Carolina A&T College students at the “whites only” Woolworth lunch counter on Feb. 1, 1960. The action launched the modern Civil Rights movement and helped end legal segregation throughout the South.

Dimondstein’s support for the ICRCM extends back to his days as president of the Greensboro Local 711.

“I am honored to serve on the board of this great museum,” Dimondstein said. “I have always believed that the labor movement and the Civil Rights movement are intertwined and depend on each other for success.”

Postal and federal employees can contribute to the museum via the Combined Federal Campaign.
