APWU: In Memory – Clerk NBA Gilbert Ybarra passed away Oct. 2, following motorcycle accident (Updated w/arrangements)

ybarra_g10/03/2014 – Gilbert C. Ybarra, Clerk Craft National Business Agent for the San Francisco Region, passed away Oct. 2, following a motorcycle accident.

Ybarra was a member of the California Area Local and was an outspoken advocate for his co-workers and the APWU.

“We are deeply saddened by Gilbert’s tragic death,” said APWU President Mark Dimondstein. “Our hearts are with his family.”

Ybarra was elected National Business Agent (NBA) in 2010 and was re-elected in 2013. Beginning in 2004, he served as vice president of the California Area Local, said NBA James Scoggins. Prior to his election as vice president of his local, he was steward and chief steward at the San Bernadino Processing & Distribution Center. He was retired from the Air Force Reserves.

Ybarra is survived by his wife, his mother, three daughters and three grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are set for Wednesday, October 15, and Thursday, October 16.
