A team of 26 employees has embarked on a mission to help 41,000 Postal Service leaders improve their workplace environments.
The team members, known as engagement ambassadors, are divided among the seven USPS areas and headquarters. For the next two years, the ambassadors will lead required training for all managers and supervisors in their assigned territories.
âThe Postal Service is committed to changing its culture,â said Employee Engagement Executive Director Kelvin Williams. âThe ambassadors will help us improve our organization, one workplace at a time.â
The ambassadors will train about 60 managers and supervisors each week in each of their respective areas.
The training consists of a day-and-a-half class that focuses on 12 engagement principles, such as ensuring employeesâ opinions count and providing positive feedback.
After managers and supervisors complete the training, theyâll be responsible for implementing the principles in their workplaces.
âThe goal is to create a cascading effect throughout the Postal Service,â Williams said.
The ambassadors were chosen from a pool of about 800 applicants. Each ambassador has received extensive training from Gallup.
All managers and supervisors are encouraged to work with their assigned ambassador and complete the training, which is receiving praise from early participants.
Managers, supervisors and others who have questions should email enagement@usps.gov.

This program will fail before it even gets off the ground. How can management still be so arrogant as to think any program they want to implement will change anything without the employees the rank-and-file being involved? How stupid are you people? It’s the same old crap different day.

Leadership is always a reflection from the top. So if the PMG doesn’t attempt to set the tone from the top it will never filter its way down to that 204B! Respect is given when it is earned. Treating all letter carriers if they are career employees or a brand new CCA with RESPECT is not too much to ask. We are all human beings first with a job to do safely and efficiently. The USPS powers to be are removing routes, to over burden other routes making these route unrealistically to be done in an 8 hour day. So training should be given to all who work in management just not middle but upper management as well. Wake up USPS it is 2016 and your actions have not gotten better but they have worsen since I have retired!

Don’t EVER expect anything really good and new in an employee directed way by the TRUE ossified reptillian PCES 1 (HQ) and PCES 2 (HQ and regional) corporate management. All the “pro” employee programs are fake PR stunts contrived to demoralize and confuse the hourly rated interval worker (clocker) into believing that management does care (they couldn’t care what happens to the real workers) and that if things are AFU for the worker the worker is to blame. USPS PCES management are like our politicians of late, they blather and really say nothing, they lie, they promise and not only deliver nothing but do deliver a “good rear end” job. The management wizards with their extensive training, orientation, and legal “hot shots” will ALWAYS outfox the regular hourly rated interval worker (clocker). Do not fall prey to these nefarious predators.
NEVER participate in the Employee Opinion Surveys, the information obtained collectively can and will be used against the unwitting participant. And one last word…………these surveys have been around for years and the working conditions at the USPS have gotten worse instead of better. Enough bs is enough bs.

Just an updated version of “Employee Involvement” (EI) and similar past manifestations of long-discredited and meaningless happy talk “Kumbaya” nonsense that is entirely void of any aspect of sincerity and credibility. The USPS is still committed at every level to an autocratic, excessively micromanaged work environment that is numbers driven and that rewards antagonism, disrespect and bullying as standard operating procedure. What’s old is really not at all new.

Naturally our fearless leaders in D.C. probably will not be getting any training. Nor the Prez, Congress or the PRC or the BOG. Bad numbers in the Postal Pulse?

Really I don’t think it will work because management is set in their on ways. Here at the Memphis NDC we have a revolving door for Plant Managers and Our District Manger or Managers/Supervisor don’t know the daily processing of mail. They are only worry about numbers and scans. Hell we don’t even scan the placard correctly.
