New Village Post Office in Halifax County is face of new USPS (video)

The concept started three years ago and is now catching on in Southern Virginia.

(August 26, 2014) HALIFAX CO., Va. – The Back Porch Store and Grill is in Rural Halifax County, a few miles away from South Boston and the only place to grab a sandwich, gas, and see your neighbor on this side of the county.

That Mayberry atmosphere is now even more authentic with one small kiosk behind the peanuts near the beer coolers.

“This is what the post office supplies you when you become a Village Post Office and what it has is it has priority flat rate, express,” said Pam Backstrom, a co-owner of the Back Porch Store and Grill pointing at the new shelves filled with envelopes and boxes.

The U.S. Postal Service is returning to its roots by opening Village Post Offices throughout the country.

They’re not really branches and employees don’t get paid by the U.S. Postal Service.
