Mike Nodine’s – How Atlanta Voted in the 2016 National APWU Election:
Nationally 194,172 ballots were mailed on September 13, 2016.
41,221 ballots were received and counted and of those, at least 11,351 Retirees voted.Around 640 AMAL 32 Members voted and around 175 of those were Retirees.
Around 21% of APWU Members voted nationally, with close to 25% AMAL 32 Members voting.
Our Atlanta Metro Local closely mirrored the national trends with the exception of two Maintenance Craft races for which I take responsibility. Our Atlanta Local is arguably the best cross-section and an election bellwether of our National APWU, facts we can be very proud of.
Every candidate I said would “Win”, won for the reasons I stated and by the margins I predicted. Every candidate I said that “Could Win”, fell short.
In the end the Member’s Unity Team candidate swept every race in this election. What I and many others failed to predict or take into account was that our Retirees would make up around 28% of all of the votes cast, both nationally and in our Atlanta Local and they would be the most decisive factor in many of the races with ~19% regular Members and ~31% of Retirees voting:

It appears the Boston Metro Area Local cast over 930 votes, apparently the most votes of any Local, surpassing even the New York Locals.
This is an indication Boston is one of, if not the most powerful, well organized, well informed, most active and successful APWU Local in the nation.
I was pleased to see Boston vindicated my recommendations of Jeff Kehlert for VP and Charles Smith for Research and Education. Of all candidates who did not win, these two in particular were the greatest loss to the entire APWU. Obviously the Boston Metro Area Local agreed in force:
