Updated Family Medical Leave Booklet
I am pleased to announce that “A Guide to the Family and Medical Leave Act” has been updated and is now available. The booklet will be distributed at the APWU Biennial National Convention to all delegates.Thank you to Kathleen Kaplan and Tony Neri of the Florida Postal Workers Union, the union’s attorneys and the APWU Communications Department, who were instrumental in assisting me in preparing the research, verbiage and layout of the booklet and ensuring it complies with applicable laws. This was truly a labor of love for me since the FMLA booklet had not been updated since 2012. I hope it will be of great assistance to you, the members.
The brochure includes new sample forms addressing specific illnesses, which our members can provide to their doctors. For example, there are sample forms for diabetes, cancer and anxiety, to name a few.
We expect the sample forms will result in members experiencing fewer problems when they submit applications for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The forms comply with the requirements of the Department of Labor.
The guide and the forms will also be available at apwu.org. Additionally if you have FMLA instructors that would like to teach, we have an excellent power point presentation that I would be glad to provide. Just contact my assistant Gwen Lane for copies.
